About the artist
Painting the space between memory and landscape.
Dorothea Ney is an abstract expressionist painter living and working in Pecos, New Mexico.
Artist statement
As an expressionist painter, Dorothea works with acrylics, oil colors, cold wax and crayons on canvas or wood panel. Her current paintings weave together the softer colors and light of her home in Germany with the wilder, bolder colors and intense light of New Mexico.
Those opposites create imaginary landscapes of the soul. In the dialogue between the artist and the canvas, the beauty and energetics of the natural world become compositions of color and movement. Light flows through shifting pastel fields, while boundaries of form dissolve.
